Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore various coping mechanisms and survival strategies employed by African immigrant teachers in South African schools which helped them to successfully reconstruct their professional identities. This study which is qualitative in nature used semi-structured interviews, observations, researcher‟s journal and field notes to obtain data from the participants. The data obtained from five African immigrant teachers through narratives of their stories were analysed by means of content analysis............
