Abstract: It is possible that errors and misconceptions that students commit in examinations are among the leading factors that negatively affect their performance. This research investigated common errors and misconceptions that students are prone to commit in MTH 1101 – Algebra, their frequencies and how they affect their performance. This study adopted a descriptive survey design and involved one hundred and ten students from the MTH 1101 - Algebra class (2019/2020). Data was collected through a survey in the form of a test. The analysis revealed that students had the greatest difficulty in performing operations on algebraic fractions as well as reporting all the solutions to an algebraic equation......
